We are looking for Polish-speaking writers, and/or English-speaking writers with a strong connection or experience of Poland and Polish culture, of any experience level who have stories for young audiences they are bursting to tell. You must be a resident of Ireland, aged 16+.

Polish Arts Festival will be holding a group exhibition entitled “Forces of Nature” on view from September 14th to 22nd in Belltable, Limerick. “Forces of Nature” will look beyond the traditional landscape to interrogate the ecological and natural forces at play in the surrounding landscape. We invite photographers from across the country to submit two photographs inspired by environmental themes to be considered for inclusion in this exhibition. The selected photographs will be printed and exhibited during the Polish Arts Festival 2023 in Belltable, Limerick.

Wystawa “Siły Natury” zachęca artystów fotografii do badawczego spojrzenia na naturę, do zauważenia wpływu człowieka na krajobraz oraz do uchwycenia zmian w naszej relacji z naturą. STORY WRITER CALLOUT/ KONKURS OTWARTY DLA PISARZY

PAF Stories is a commission project led by the Polish Arts Festival in Limerick. We will commission one story in English and one story in Polish. We are looking to commission two contemporary, playful and exciting stories for children that:

• Are written in Polish
• Are written in English with a focus on Polish – Irish connection and experience

Opowieści PAFu to nasz nowy projekt pisarski. Planujemy zlecić napisanie dwóch opowiadań – jedno po polsku i jedno po angielsku. Czekamy na zgłoszenia od wszystkich, którzy chcieliby spróbować swoich sił w twórczym pisaniu współczesnych, zabawnych i ekscytujących historii dla dzieci, które:

• Są napisane w języku polskim
• Są napisane w języku angielskim, ale tematycznie skupiają się na polsko – irlandzkiej tematyce

Come celebrate Christmas customs and winter traditions with the international communities in Limerick at The Hunt Museum.
There will be music and dancing from Mexico and India, a children’s decoration making workshop, Polish carol singing, presentations, displays of cultural items and more!
Polish Christmas Carol Singing will take place at 2.30pm in The Captain’s Room.

Help Truffles the treasure-hunting piggy on a journey through Limerick city. Each level you complete will unlock a ceramic treasure from one of the three muses; The Hunt Museum, the Limerick Museum and the Limerick City Gallery of Art. The layout of the old city of Limerick that Truffles navigates through is inspired by an illustration of Limerick from 1578 in the Limerick Museum Collection. The colour palette for Truffles and the city was taken from a selection of watercolour paintings in the Permanent Collection of the Limerick City Gallery of Art. Truffles our main character is inspired by Limericks ‘pigtown’ food heritage. The patrolling diver “guards” are inspired by the diving suit in the Limerick Museum Collection. The sweets that Truffles collects on her way to find the keys are inspired by the shapes of sweet moulds from Limerick sweet production, also on display in the Limerick Museum. Look closely and you will see King John’s Castle, the river Shannon, the windmill from Windmill Street, and St. Mary’s cathedral. Look ever closer and you will see a Pike splashing in the Shannon. There are a number of stuffed fish in the Limerick Museum. If you play the game with the sound on you will hear Truffles speaking, she speaks in Limerick slang! What can you hear her say? Listen carefully – do you hear the Bells of St. Mary’s Cathedral?

The Co-Artistic Directors of the festival, Justyna Cwojdzińska and Aleksandra Rosiak, have curated a wonderful programme of events that celebrates the Lem Centenary (100th Birthday Anniversary of Stanisław Lem, a sci-fi author, father of Solaris). You can listen to bilingual podcasts about Lem’s work and enjoy children audio-stories directed by Kamila Dydyna, performed by Georgina Miller and Justyna Cwojdzińska from September 16 to October 15. The programme includes a family screening of animations for children based on Lem’s stories which will be presented in Belltable and an online presentation of animations for adults.
